Guest blogger Erica here to tell you all about the fantastic whirlwind that was the Gold Coast!
This was the first day of the entire trip where we were not awoken by the famous GOOD MORNING song. Instead we were sharing a luxurious hotel room with a buddy from the Blue Bus and 1-3 people from the White Bus. Together we headed down and gathered by the pool, making our TBL presence known with everyone wearing their bright blue TBL shirt. Wilson then put us into teams, combining rooms to create a mix of both Blue and White to compete in the BIGmazing race. Every task required us to post a video or photo in real time on instagram, hash tagging our team name which for me was #yogabbagabba. The race went for 4 hours, asking us to do a number of publicly humiliating challenges, but hey that's where the fun is at! My favourite part of the race was having everyone from the public wondering who these people in the blue shirts were. Throughout the day we would stop and talk to people about what we had done and everyone was really amazed that a bunch of uni students would participate in something like TBL describing it as “wonderful”.
By the end of the BIGmazing race we were all exhausted and happy to enjoy a delicious healthy lunch in the park. Maree then surprised us by telling us we would be performing a flash mob dance to our bus song "Happy" which we had 2 hours to learn. But before performing our awesome dance we would be completing random acts of kindness. In our BIGmazing race teams, we were given $20 to spend on anything we wanted to complete a random act of kindness. Majority of us went with handing out chocolates and flowers while others gave out free hugs and massages. Some members of the public were reluctant to accept and scurried off, but most were pleasantly surprised and accepted our kindness.
Trying our best not to look suspicious, we all hung around the main shopping mall at Surfers Paradise waiting to hear "Happy" over the loud speaker. As soon as it came on we all ran into position and began dancing in front of a large public audience which to our surprise included our lovely bus drivers, Gary and Norm!
Following our action-packed day, we celebrated with a Thai Banquet involving all crew and Blue and White Bus participants. The food was delicious and extremely filling! The Ops then got up to thank everyone and we could all feel the love in the room. We then wrapped up with announcing the winners of the BIGmazing Race before heading back to our hotel to chill out.
