The Big Lift 2010
Where we went...
Dubbo, Gilgandra, Moree, St George, Brisbane, Valla Beach and back to Sydney.
What we did...
First stop, Wongarbon, just outside Dubbo. Here we tree lined the path of the community park and the banks of the dam to help prevent erosion.
At our second stop, The Big Lift temporarily split up to tackle a couple of projects. One group worked with Balladoran Cultural Camp to assist with the construction of shelters. The other group worked at Gilgandra Primary School, replanting and mulching the grounds.
At stop number three, The Big Lift lent a hand to Moree Community Health Services, painting and landscaping the areas around the patient rooms.
As we crossed state lines and moved into Queensland, our fourth stop was St George. The Big Lift was to work towards restoring a park which was badly affected by the March 2010 flooding. Unfortunately, bad weather prevented the project taking place and the former mayor treated us to a guided tour of St George instead.
The Big Lift did something a bit different in Brisbane. Rather than working on a central project, the Big Lifters carried out a range of good will initiatives around the city. Each group came up with ideas to put some smiles on the faces of the Brisbane public. Judging from the praise and smiles we received from everyone we met, mission accomplished!
